My approach to panel moderation starts well before anyone takes the stage. I use a structured process to engage panelists in advance, understand their expertise and perspectives, and identify the stories and insights that will make the conversation valuable. I work with organizers to understand the goals of the session and develop thoughtful questions around the topics that matter most to their audience.
Then, on stage, I focus on the conversation. I help panelists feel at ease, make sure every voice is heard, draw out interesting perspectives, and know when to follow an unexpected thread instead of simply moving to the next question. I also engage the audience, creating a dynamic experience that feels participatory rather than scripted.

Great Panelists Are Only Part of the Equation
You can put incredibly smart, experienced people on a stage, but that doesn’t automatically create a great panel.
A great moderator connects the dots. They ask questions that draw out each panelist’s expertise, make space for different perspectives, and listen closely enough to know when the most interesting conversation isn’t the next question on the list.
They also pay attention to the room. They know when to dig deeper, when to redirect, when to bring another voice into the conversation, and when the audience is ready to move on.
Most importantly, a great moderator makes the conversation feel natural without leaving it to chance. There’s preparation and intention behind the scenes so that, when the panel begins, the panelists can focus on sharing what they know and the audience can simply enjoy being part of the conversation.
